The mid-term 2024 population and housing census is conducted nationwide except for four small island districts of Bach Long Vy in Hai Phong City, Con Co in Quang Tri province, Hoang Sa in Da Nang city, and Trong Sa in Khanh Hoa province.

It will last until April 30, targeting to measure district-level demographic changes in five years from the last survey in 2019 to update population data and analyze population trends between 2020 to 2024.

The census serves as a basis for evaluating the implementation of the socioeconomic development plan for the 2021-2025 period, monitoring the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and formulating population and housing policies and socio-economic development plan for the 2026-2030 period.

Three types of questionnaires will be employed to collect the data which will be published between November and December 2024.

Especially, foreigners are included as survey subjects for the first time to ensure statistical standards and international recommendations on population statistics, as well as to achieve sustainable development goals to "leave no one behind"./.
