PM meets Lao counterpart, former US Ambassador on ASEAN-Australia Summit margin

VGP – Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith have agreed to direct ministries, agencies and localities to effectively carry out the two countries’ Joint Cooperation Plan for 2018, focusing on transportation connectivity.

The agreement was made on March 17 during their meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Canberra, Australia.

The two PMs also pledged to urged inferior levels to discuss ways to foster bilateral trade exchanges and energy cooperation in a bid to contribute to the advancement of the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

PM Phuc took the occasion to ask the Lao side to further simplify procedures reduce fees in granting work permits, visa and residential cards for Vietnamese workers in Laos.

The Vietnamese Government chief also suggested Laos to continue creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese community to live and work in the country.

Thongloun Sisoulith confirmed he will attend the 6th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS-6) Summit and the 10th Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam (CLV-10) Development Triangle Area Summit, scheduled to take place in Ha Noi from March 29-31.

He also vowed to coordinate closely with Viet Nam and member countries of the Mekong sub-region to fruitfully realize their economic cooperation programs in the region.

The same day, PM Phuc also received former US Ambassador to Viet Nam Pete Peterson who got married to Le Vi, an Australian woman of Vietnamese origin.

The Vietnamese leader highly valued Peterson’s contributions to the process of Viet Nam-US diplomatic relation normalization and advancement of the bilateral ties./.
