The Summits are the most important multilateral events hosted by Viet Nam this year, Vice Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy told reporters at a press conference on March 15.

Vice Foreign Minister Quy said around 2,000 delegates, representatives of 200 businesses will attend the Summits.

The GMS-6 is expected to figure out orientations for achieving prosperity and sustainable development in the Mekong region.

For the first time, a Business Summit will be held during the GMS-6 in order to strengthen dialogues between the regional Governments and business community and to enhance connectivity among businesses of the region and the world.

This year GMS will draw the participation of 1,000 delegates, including Government leaders and representatives of international institutions like the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the ASEAN Secretary-General.

The CLV-10 will review the implementation of the Overall socio-economic development plan of the CLV Development Triangle Area for the 2010-2020 and discuss future cooperation orientations, especially economic connectivity among the three member countries.

The GMS mechanism was initiated in 1992 by six countries namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam and China with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

Meanwhile, the CLV Development Triangle Area was established in 1999 to boost cooperation among the three countries’ border provinces./.
