The leader briefed the Japanese firms on Viet Nam’s economy as well as its digital transformation. According to the PM, Viet Nam’s labor force aged below 35 accounts for 65% of its population, while the middle class makes up 15% of the population and will climb to 50% by 2030, creating a market with strong purchasing power for investment and business plans in the country.

The European Union and Viet Nam will sign a bilateral free trade agreement (EVFTA) in Ha Noi on June 30, he revealed, stating that by 2020, Viet Nam will have highly preferential free trade relations with 55 partners, including G7 countries and 15 member states of the G20.

PM Phuc cited JETRO’s latest survey as saying that 65% of Japanese enterprises in Viet Nam have reported profitable business, while 70% of them wish to expand their business activities in the Southeast Asian country.

Viet Nam is striving to build e-Government and moving towards the building of the digital Government and e-Cabinet to create the foundation for the development of the digital economy and society, he said.

The PM noted that Viet Nam identifies human resources as one of the key factors to ensure sustainable development of the country as a whole, and the information technology (IT) sector in particular. The Vietnamese Government has set the goal of developing digital human resources and striving to have one million high-quality digital laborers during 2020-2025.

In the time ahead, the development strategies for Viet Nam’s IT human resources will focus on developing IT human resources in the fields serving the fourth Industrial Revolution, the leader stated.

PM Phuc welcomed Japan’s cooperation in dealing with this issue, especially as Viet Nam is facing traffic overload due to a large volume of motorbikes.

On the same morning, the Vietnamese PM also hosted a reception for Koichi Miyata, President of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), a big Japanese investor in Viet Nam’s finance-banking sector.
