The year 2010 will be of significance when the whole Party and people are preparing for the 11th Party National Congress, and numerous important celebrations and events, including the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

To make full use of opportunities, overcome challenges and realize the set targets, according to Deputy PM, FM Khiêm, it is necessary for the diplomatic sector to bring into play the achievements in 2009, solve shortcomings and proactively carry out dynamic and comprehensive diplomatic activities with seven directions as follows:

Firstly, the sector should take positive steps to cement and deepen the relations established with partners, especially strategic, comprehensive and important ones.

Secondly, to fulfill all duties of the ASEAN president; to actively integrate in the international economy; to play as a responsible member on regional and international forums in order to heighten the national status.

Thirdly, to figure out solutions for territorial and border issues with other relevant countries in the principle of securing national sovereignty territorial integrity, and sustaining security, peace and stability in the region.

Fourthly, the economic diplomacy will be enhanced to strengthen cooperative ties with big partners and penetrate into potential and untapped markets.

Fifthly, to uphold the task on overseas Vietnamese; to realize policies on the Vietnamese community abroad in order to help them to integrate into local societies, preserve national identities and contribute to the homeland.

Sixth, to combine cultural diplomacy, political diplomacy and economic diplomacy; to design a cultural diplomatic strategy for the coming 10 years.

Finally, to better operation of diplomatic channels of the Party, State, National Assembly, localities and people.
