Viet Nam, UK join hands to implement cooperation plans within JETP

VGP - The United Kingdom (UK) will work closely with Viet Nam’s ministries, agencies and partners to carry out cooperation plans within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), especially in offshore wind power.

Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Philip Barton made the above statement during his meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang in Ha Noi on March 25.

Philip Barton asserted that the UK attaches importance to strengthening the strategic partnership with Viet Nam in its policy towards the Asia-Pacific region, adding that the UK will continue working and supporting the Southeast Asian nation in climate change adaption, sustainable economic development and protection of biodiversity in the Mekong River region.

He underlined the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of aviation and navigation, complying with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea at all seas and oceans, including the East Sea and the Red Sea.

For her side, Le lauded the positive achievements in the bilateral ties, especially in terms of politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, security, defense, education and training.

Remarkably, in 2023, both sides joined hands in successfully organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, she noted, suggesting the two foreign ministries promote high-ranking delegation exchanges and effectively implement cooperation mechanisms.

She spoke highly of the assistance of the UK for Viet Nam within the framework of the JETP, expecting the UK continue to assist Viet Nam in spheres of capital, technology and high-quality human resource training.

Both diplomats vowed to take full advantages brought by the UK-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement and bolster collaboration in finance-banking, education-training, science-technology and maritime economy.

They pledged to enhance mutual support at international and regional organizations and forums, such as the UN, ASEAN-UK framework and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)./.
