The event, jointly organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), attracted the participation of over 100 delegates from 18 countries and territories.

Addressing the event, head of the Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes Nguyen Van Vien said, Viet Nam is under great pressure due to drug trafficking from the "Golden Triangle", a region where the jungle borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet.

The department has promoted cooperation with neighboring countries and ASEAN member states, with a view of not letting Viet Nam become an international drug transit area, he noted.

Viet Nam expects to continue collaboration with other countries to improve capacity for drug prevention and combat forces, he shared.

This is the second time Viet Nam and the U.S. have coordinated to hold the Mini-IDEC, demonstrating Viet Nam's international role and responsibility in solving the global drug problem for the Far East in general and the U.S. in particular, contributing to raising its position and strong political commitment to cooperation on the drug fight in the region and the world over.

During the two-day conference, which includes plenary and group discussions, delegates are to assess the evolution of drug crimes in the region, as well as difficulties, obstacles, and solutions to improve cooperation efficiency in the face of increasingly sophisticated and cunning drug smuggling methods./.
