According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, by the end of 2023, around 136,800 foreign workers were working in Viet Nam.

Earlier, Viet Nam was named in the top 10 countries for expatriate workers, according to HSBC's Expat Global Report.

"Most expats moving to Viet Nam say they were able to quickly adjust to the way of life there, feeling at home within the first few months of arriving," the HSBC report said.

Expats also expressed surprise at the benefits of working in Viet Nam. Many receive salary increases which, given the relatively low cost of living, provides them with far more spending power to enjoy everything the country has to offer.

A friendly living environment, political stability, ease of settling in and work-life balance have pushed Viet Nam ahead of other Southeast Asian neighbors like Malaysia (16th), Thailand (22nd), the Philippines (24th) and Indonesia (31st).

In its annual survey to select the best destinations for expats in 2023, InterNations noted that Viet Nam comes 14th out of 53 destinations in the survey. It even secures 1st place worldwide in the Personal Finance Index.

Viet Nam consistently ranks among the best-rated destinations for its general cost of living in 2023, almost four in five expats (77 percent) are happy with this factor, compared to only 44 percent globally.

Regarding labor exports, Viet Nam sent more than 35,900 laborers to work abroad under contracts in the first quarter of 2024, reported the Department of Overseas Labor under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

This year, the Southeast Asian nation aims to send 125,000 contract workers, mostly to key traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan and South Korea./.
