The Vietnamese Government highly valued the United Nations’ Zero Hunger Challenge initiative, which has five main objectives: zero stunted children less than two years old, access to adequate food all year round, all food systems  sustainable, increase in smallholder productivity and income; zero loss or waste of food, said PM Dung.

Viet Nam is launching two programs on new rural establishment and agricultural restructuring, revealed the PM, adding that the nation is realizing a number of synchronous measures to enhance the application of science and technology, re-organizing production, attracting more investment for agriculture and mitigating consequences caused by natural calamity and climate change.

The PM thanked UN agencies and the international community for their assistance, expecting to receive more for socio-economic development in general and the launching of the Zero Hunger Challenge in particular.

As one of the eight nations implementing the One UN Initiative, Viet Nam committed to cooperating with the UN in the process of realizing sustainable development goals, stressed the PM.

Viet Nam’s participation in the Zero Hunger Challenge not only shows the responsibility of Viet Nam in the UN’s activities but also meets the nation’s practical demands.

The Zero Hunger Challenge is expected to help Viet Nam in poverty reduction, food security and nutrition security in rural and remote areas.

The Food and Agriculture Organization, a sustainable partner of the Vietnamese Government will provide technical assistance for Viet Nam in poverty reduction, confirmed Assistant Director-General and FAO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific Hiroyuki Konuma.

The UN commits to assisting Viet Nam in eliminating hunger though the One UN Initiative, said UN Resident Coordinator Pratibha Mehta.
