The event targeted to seek ways to minimize the separation of economic space due to administrative boundary; make full use of both public and private resources for economic growth; and increase regional management competence.

Nguyen Dinh Cung, Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) assessed that in Viet Nam, regional linkages are still carried out in  a voluntary and spontaneous manner.

So far, a large number of local economic planning schemes are overlapping and inefficient. Meanwhile, newly-emerging issues at regional level cannot be effectively resolved by each locality such as climate change, saltwater intrusion, droughts, water management in the Central Highlands Region, and forest management.

Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Vuong Dinh Hue said that regional planning on socio-economic development must target to uphold comparative advantages of every locality; overcome economic space separation from administrative boundary, effectively tap resources of the State and economic components, especially in transport and building of new rural areas.

Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Country Director for Viet Nam, affirmed that the bank will collaborate with international organisations and the Vietnamese Government in promoting regional development and regional coordination in Viet Nam.

On this occasion, development partners in Viet Nam had a joint statement backing an initiative to foster regional coordination in Viet Nam initiated by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and the Government./.
