VN’s youth optimistic about future

Education continues to be Vietnamese youth’s top priority

The General Statistics Office, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the General Department of Population and Family Planning under the Ministry of Health on June 1 issued data of the 2^nd Joint Survey Assessment of Vietnamese Youth (SAVY 2).

The 1^st survey was conducted in 2005 and the second was kicked off in April 2009 on national scale.

The SAVY 2 provides a comprehensive panorama on changes and trends of knowledge-behavior-attitude development and living conditions of the Vietnamese youth.

Statistics show that the youth are now living in better conditions compared to five years earlier and they become more active in all dimensions of life.

Like the conclusion of the SAVY 1, Vietnamese youth still keep an optimistic stance of their own economic prospects.

Over 70% of them think that “material conditions” will be better in the next three years. Skilled people are even more optimistic about this.

Education is top priority

According to the survey, around 86% of the youth and the juvenile in the Northwestern Region go to school, meanwhile the figure is at least 97% in all other regions.

Noticeably, the percentage of juvenile and young people giving up studies dramatically fell down, especially among the under 15 year old group.

Some 38% of the surveyed participants said they wish to continue their studies as their top priority in the next five years. In fact, higher education is not just children’s dream but also their parents’ thirst.
