VN’s opinions on some int’l issues

VGP – Speaking at the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) August 4 consultation on situations in Iraq, Ambassador Bùi Thế Giang, Deputy Representative of Việt Nam to the Council, acknowledged the supports of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) to the Iraqi Government’s efforts in such urgent fields as national reconciliation, political dialogue, electoral preparation, Constitution’s amendments, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction.

Pointing challenges faced by Iraq when the country must play an bigger role in guaranteeing national security, Ambassador Giang called upon all sides in Iraq to give top priority to the national interests, avoid any acts which can lead to tension, strengthen solidarity and join efforts in realizing the peace process, dialogues, political stability and socio-economic reconstruction.

He asked UNAMI and other UN agencies in Iraq to consolidate their coordination in order to meet Iraqi people’s demand for development.

On the same day, at the urgent consultation on the attack in Acobo, South Sudan, killing 180 people, mainly women and children, Ambassador Giang showed his concerns and strongly condemned the massacre as well as other assaults on civilians in the region.

The Vietnamese diplomat advocated the inspection to bring the culprits to the court, calling on the Sudanese Government and the UN Mission in Sudan to make greater efforts in re-establishing order and preventing the similar attacks.
