VN’s delegation at the 19th AMM

At the meeting, the ministers discussed many important issues including WTO multilateral trade system, Doha Round, regional economic integration, structural reform, human security and APEC reform.

Vietnamese delegation’s proposals at the meeting were highly appreciated by other members. Deputy PM-FM Phạm Gia Khiêm stressed the importance of human security to all economies, especially the developing countries.

He proposed to all the APEC members that (1) the cooperation in the grouping should be strengthened; (2) the developing economies be provided with equipment, technologies, and devices so as to forecast and monitor earthquakes, tsunami, hurricanes and floods; and (3) Việt Nam‘s initiative to host dialogues among the member economies, business circles and relevant international organizations to deal with urgencies in 2008 be supported by all members.

On the sideline of the AMM Mr. Phạm Gia Khiêm had a meeting on September 04 with Foreign and Trade Minister Song Min Soon of the Republic of Korea (RoK), at which the latter confirmed that RoK considered Việt Nam as an important partner in its development cooperation program.  The RoK FM also pledged to provide preferential credits to Việt Nam.

Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm suggested that the two sides boost the two-way trade turnovers and the RoK promotes educational cooperation by increasing scholarships to Vietnamese students.
