The signing was made on the last day of the 17th annual meeting between the two countries’ border missions held in Huế city, central Thừa Thiên-Huế Province, from November 12-16. It marked the completion of legal documents relating to the two countries’ border line.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed that the situation in the border areas between the two countries was kept stable, and social security and order were ensured, facilitating the socio-economic development in both countries’ localities and helping to enhance their solidarity and cooperation.
They also acknowledged some unsolved issues relating to border management work, and agreed on cooperation plans, including regular exchanges of information, joint patrols and checks in order to deal with emerging issues.
The two missions emphasised the need to intensify socio-economic and cultural exchange and coordination in border security maintenance. They discussed solutions to unplanned migration and uncertified marriage in the border areas and a joint plan to implement a project to upgrade the landmark system in 2008.
