Growth was also seen in the numbers of visitors from the Asian markets, including the Republic of Korea (up by 52.4%), Japan (up by 5.3%), Taiwan (up by 14%), Malaysia (up by 13%), Thailand (up by 10.9%), and Singapore (up by 5.4%).
Meanwhile, the number of European tourists to the country rose 10.4 percent year-on-year. Fast growing markets include Russia (7.5%), the Netherlands (8.4%) and Sweden (14.2%).
The number of tourists from the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, the countries having enjoyed Viet Nam's visa exemption also recorded impressive growth, particularly, the UK (6.7%), France (10.6%), Germany (7.9%), Spain (10.9%) and Italia (15.3%).
In August alone, over 1.3 million foreign visitors arrived in Viet Nam, representing an annual increase of 11.3%. Of which arrivals by air increased by 7.7%, by road increased by 29.4%, and arriving by sea increased by 21.3%.
Compared to the same period last year, international visitors to Viet Nam increased by 7.7%, of which Asian visitors increased 8.2%, Europeans rose 5.8%, from the Americas increased by 9%, from Oceania decreased by 0.1% and those from Africa increased by 13.7%.
With the current growth rate, the tourism sector is expecting that international arrivals will reach between 15 and 17 million this year.
