VN, UK promote investment cooperation

The leaders highly valued the two nations’ effective and comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Mr. Grant Shapps talked of the successful operation of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee of Viet Nam and the UK (JETCO), saying the UK businesses are interested in investment cooperation activities in Viet Nam.

He said he hopes that the Vietnamese Government will assist the UK businesses in investments in architecture, construction, education and engineering manufacturing.

The UK side proposed the two nations soon build a financial center in Ho Chi Minh City with the assistance of Canary Wharf Group.

Mr. Grant Shapps confirmed that the UK will support Viet Nam in the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiation process.

The two leaders agreed to build Viet Nam-UK University and open the Viet Nam-UK Researchand Training Institute.

The same day, the Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh met with representatives of 10 investment funds.

At the meeting, the UK financial investors shared experience on developing the bond market with foreign currencies and expressed their desire to know more about Viet Nam’s policy on stocks and bonds.

The Deputy PM revealed efforts of the Vietnamese Government in stabilizing the macro-economy, boosting economic growth rate and privatizing State-owned enterprises.

Deputy PM Ninh visited the Vietnamese Embassy and met with representatives of the Overseas Vietnamese community in the UK.
