The system is a trans-European network for veterinary health which notified, certifies and monitors imports, exports and trade in animals and animal products. Economic operators and competent authorities all over the world can use this web-based network free of charge to trade back and forth animal and animal product movement.
Each year, vast quantities of livestock and produce are traded into the EU to be served on 500 million European plates, raising the question: how can the European Commission ensure that both food and consumers are kept safe?
