Under the theme “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Sustainable Development”, the forum covers eight plenary sessions and 32 seminars focusing on women’s role in ICT development, practical experience and policies of developed IT countries.
The WITFOR 2009 is expected to bring new opportunities for Asia to speed up ICT applications in daily activities, noted Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyễn Minh Hồng.
The forum is also a good chance for local and foreign policymakers, scientists, experts and IT enterprises to have good outlooks and unbiased understanding of the current IT development so that proper solutions will be figured out to narrow ICT gap between developing and developed countries.

Initiated by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) in 2003, the WITFOR has made valuable contributions to the implementation of the Action Plan of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a step to assist developing countries to achieve the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
