According to the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, over half of century, the average temperature in Việt Nam has increased by 0.5-0.70C and the sea level has gone up 20 cm.

Việt Nam is one of five countries suffering worst impacts of climate change. Floods, storms and droughts are causing increasingly heavy consequences, especially in the Mekong Delta.

In late 2008, the Government approved the National Goal Program on response to climate change and decided to allocate VND 2,000 billion for the program.

The upcoming forum is expected to find out effective measures for responding and mitigating negative impacts of climate change in the country in general and the Mekong Delta in particular.
