VN to attend ASSA Board Meeting in Brunei

VGP – A delegation of the Viet Nam Social Security (VSS), headed by Deputy Minister-General Director of the VSS Nguyen Thi Minh, will leave for Brunei to attend the 36th Board Meeting of the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA 36) from September 17 to 19.

During the three-day annual event, the ASSA member nations will focus on discussing and commenting on the contents, including information technology and communication, the implementation of an information system for Myanmar’s social security council, enhancing health and disease prevention in the social security system, and the social synergy program.

VSS General Director Nguyen Thi Minh will preside over the ASSA 36 as the ASSA Chair, and hand over the ASSA Chairmanship for 2019-2020 to Brunei on a rotating basis.

During its 2018-2019 ASSA chairmanship tenure, the VSS has proactively proposed the adoption of an ASSA Action Plan. This is the first time since its inception in 1998 that the ASSA has agreed to design and implement a specific action plan aiming to make its operations more extensive and substantial, commensurate with the potential and strength of ASSA member organizations.

In addition, the VSS has chaired and coordinated the implementation of a number of specific activities with practical significance.

Particularly, the VSS successfully organized an international seminar in Viet Nam under the theme “Good governance for better social security services”, which helped bring the knowledge and governance experience on modern social security systems, as instructed by the International Social Security Association, closer to the regional social security system.

The VSS joined the ASSA in September 1998 and is currently the only official member of Viet Nam at the regional social security forum. Since its admission, the VSS has been actively engaged in the implementation of cooperation activities among the ASSA member organizations.
