VN, RoK agree to lift two-way trade to US$100 bln next year

Prime Minister Lee expressed his belief that Hue’s ongoing visit to the RoK would contribute to strengthening mutual trust and understanding as well as cooperation, particularly in economic area, between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Hue conveyed Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s greetings to Prime Minister Lee and informed the host leader about the Vietnamese Government’s decision to approve the RoK’ plan to open General Consulate in the central city of Da Nang.

Hue took the occasion to extend thanks to the Northeast Asian country for having supported Viet Nam to win a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2020-2021 tenure, asking the Korean side to intensify coordination with and assistance for Viet Nam to successfully undertake the role and ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

He also affirmed Viet Nam consistently advocates peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and called for the RoK’s support for the positions and centrality of ASEAN in the region.

The two leaders were glad at the fast advancement pace of the Viet Nam-RoK strategic partnership, pledging to continue beefing up the bilateral ties in the coming time through regular exchange of high-level visits and contacts.

The pair agreed to double efforts to raise the two-way trade value to US$100 billion in 2020 from US$65 billion in 2018 in a more balanced manner.

During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Hue and his Korean counterpart will co-chair the first-ever economic dialogue to seek ways to further boost bilateral economic ties./.
