"This has been stipulated in the country's Constitution and legal system and we consistently strive to make sure it is respected in reality," said Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Hai Binh.

Mr. Binh made the point on October 15 during a regular press conference in response to reporters’ inquiry about the publication of the US Department of State’s 2014 International Religious Freedom Report on religious freedom in Viet Nam.

The new report acknowledges Viet Nam’s achievements in the field. However, it regrettably continues to highlight inadequacies and cites erroneous information about Viet Nam, said the Spokesperson.

According to the diplomat, Vie Nam’s law clearly bans discrimination against any citizen because of his or her belief and religion. The Vietnamese State has carried out numerous policies and specific measures towards ensuring citizens’ full rights to belief and religious freedom.

He went on to say that these efforts are contributing to the formation of a diverse religious life in Viet Nam./.
