VN People’s Navy marks 60th founding anniversary

VGP - The Viet Nam People’s Army on May 2 organized a ceremony in Cam Ranh military port, Khanh Hoa province to mark its 60th founding anniversary with the presence of State President Truong Tan Sang.

State President Truong Tan Sang awards the title Hero of the People's Armed Force to the Viet Nam People’s Navy, Cam Ranh military port, Khanh Hoa province, May 2, 2015

Speaking at the event, State President Sang urged each navy officer and solder to be fully aware of the sacred significance of the firm protection of the country’s independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and of the nation’s islands and sea.

They must bring into play self-reliance will, develop regular, seasoned and modern navy forces, improve training quality and management capacity among others.

On the occasion, the State President also awarded the title Hero of the People's Armed Force to the Viet Nam People’s Navy.

The Viet Nam People’s Navy was formulated on May 7, 1955.

Earlier on April 30, a grand ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 40th anniversary of South Viet Nam’s liberation and national reunification.

In hisaddress, PM Nguyen Tan Dung called the great victory of 1975 Spring a glorious chapter in our great history of national construction and defense.

"With that victory, we accomplished a historic mission of liberating the South and reunifying the country, bringing Viet Nam into a new era - the era of independence and reunification and building the socialist Vietnam into a strong nation with wealthy people, democratic, just and civilized society."

PM Dung took the occasion to express the country's sincere thanks to the people of  socialist countries, especially the Soviet Union and China; and to  peace-loving and progressive, governments, movements, organizations and individuals across the world for their whole-hearted support and assistance, both spiritual and material, to the legitimate struggle for  national independence and reunification  of Viet Nam.

He called on Vietnamese people at home and abroad to uphold the sense of nationalism, patriotism and compassion the tradition of humanity, justice, tolerance, regardless of the past and differences, join hands in national reconciliation, nuture and bring into full play the national solidarity, all for a peaceful, united, independent, democratic, and prosperous Viet Nam as our beloved Uncle Ho last wished in his will./.
