VN, Myanmar vow to broaden bilateral ties

VNGOP - At the sixth session of Việt Nam-Myanmar Joint Committee for bilateral cooperation held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from June 16-18, 2008, the two sides focused on discussing orientation and specific measures to boost bilateral ties to new heights.

At the session, Việt Nam and Myanmar fully reviewed the past five-year cooperation since 2004. They also commit to further developing mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields.

The two sides were very pleased at the fact that two-way-trade turnover has experienced a continous increase, reaching US $97.2 million in 2007, 19.9% increase in comparison with 2006. It is expected to exceed US $100 million in 2008.

Việt Nam and Myanmar also decided to hold the seven session of the Joint Committee in Hà Nội.

On this occasion, Việt Nam granted some medical tools and drugs to the victims of the Cyclone Nagris.
