VN, Laos hold first defence policy exchange

VGP – Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National DefenceSen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh and his Lao counterpart Lieut. Gen. Onsi Sensuk co-chaired the first Viet Nam-Laos defence policy exchange at the headquarters of the Lao Defence Ministry in Vientiane on July 25.

The officials agreed that all the cooperation contents set out in the Protocol for the 2015-2019 period and the cooperation plan in 2019 between the two defence ministries have been seriously, fully and effectively implemented by agencies and units of the two countries.

Regarding bilateral cooperation in the near future, the two sides reached consensus on enhancing coordination in effectively realizing the contents of the Protocol and the annual cooperation plan, accelerating dissemination about the friendly relations and solidarity between the two countries’ people and armies

They also agreed to strengthen exchange views on strategic issues, holding that the annual deputy ministerial-level defence policy exchange is an important mechanism to reach consensus on strategic issues and orientations for defence cooperation.

Later the same day, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinhpaid courtesy visits to Lao Prime Minister ThonglounSisoulith and Minister of National Defence Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath. 

During the meetings, the hosts affirmed their continued support for the enhancement of cooperation between the Defence Ministries and army units of Laos and Viet Nam.

Vinh emphasized that the Defence Ministry of Viet Nam thoroughly grasps the agreements reached by senior leaders and the significance of strengthening defencecooperation between the two countries.

He asked the Government, Defence Ministry and leaders of Laos to continue directing their agencies and army units to effectively implement the contents of the Protocol, the annual cooperation plan, as well as the agreements between the two countries’ senior leaders and Defence Ministries.
