VN-Japan Support Industry Forum set up

VGP – The Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zone (HEPZA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) on July 25 agreed to establish the Viet Nam – Japan Support Industry Forum.

Accordingly, both sides will organize meetings, workshops, training courses on technical, quality management and human resource development among others in order to beef up links among businesses operating in support industry.

At present, Ho Chi Minh City is home to 371 enterprises, according for 47.38% of the domestic total figures. Most of their products are low value-added and not integrated into the global supply chain.

JETRO Ho Chi Minh City Office Director Hirotaka Yasuzumi said local suppliers can meet 32.2 percent of the demand of Japanese-invested enterprises in Viet Nam, which is very low compared to other regional countries such as Thailand and Indonesia.

HEPZA Director Vu Van Hoa said that the establishment of the forum is of significant importance to the development of Viet Nam’s support industry./.
