The two FMs confirmed that the official visit to Japan made by State President Nguyễn Minh Triết from November 25-29, 2007 helps bring the bilateral relationship to a new height, toward the strategic partnership.

The host FM Masahiko Komura expressed his hope that the Japan-Việt Nam relation will be a gateway for Japan to access to Mekong countries.

Earlier, receiving the leaving Vietnamese Ambassador on January 15, FM Komura was convinced that the two countries would complete negotiations for the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). He affirmed that Japan will pay greater attention to strategic projects in Việt Nam.
