The commitment was stated in the note, jointly inked in Hà Nội on July 6 by Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát and Japanese Ambassador Mitsuo Sakaba, for the second phase of the Project on Afforestation in the Coastal Sandy Area in the South Central Coast of Việt Nam (PACSA II).
The PACSA II project targets to mitigate impacts of sand movement, typhoons and strong winds on agriculture production and life of local fishermen.
The project is a significant contribution to Việt Nam's five million hectare 'reforestation' program until 2010, said Minister Cao Đức Phát at the signing ceremony.
Implemented in the two central provinces of Quảng Nam and Phú Yên in the first phase (2001-2005), requiring around US $11 million investment, PACSA I helped plant 3,100 ha of forests and proved effective in improving environment and preventing sand movement and storms./.
