VN, Japan agree to foster ties

VGP – Viet Nam and Japan have agreed to foster cooperation at multilateral forums, especially in ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation on the basis of international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The agreement was made by PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe during their meeting in Milan, Italy on October 16 on the sidelines of the 10th ASEM Summit.

They stated that the move aims to make proactive and constructive contributions to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Regarding bilateral ties, the two PMs discussed major orientations and specific measures to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Both sides stressed on the importance of maintaining the regular exchange of high-level visits and contacts and agreed to effectively realize joint cooperation programs and projects.

Japanese PM affirmed that his country will continue its support for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and improvement of its law enforcement forces’ capacity./.
