VN hosts over 1 million foreign visitors

VGP - In the first seven months of 2017, the number of international visitors to Viet Nam was estimated at around 7.24 million, a year-on-year surge of 28.8%, according to the General Statistics Office.

The GSO reported a rise in tourist inflow from other key markets, with an increase of 49.3% from Russia, 46.8% from the Republic of Korea, 30.1% from Hong Kong, 27.8% from Spain, 23.6% from Cambodia, 23.4% from the Philippines and 20.8% from Taiwan.

The number of visitors from Africa also went up slightly, with 19,973 people visiting, which is a significant 28.1% rise compared to the same period last year.

Over the same period, Viet Nam also hosted 46.9 million domestic visitors, who have contributed to the estimated total revenue of VND 306.7 trillion (US$ 13.46 billion) in the hospitality sector, up 25.7% annually.

In July alone, arrivals by air reached 6.12 million, accounting for 84.4% of the total foreign travellers, while the numbers of cruise passengers and visitors arriving by land accounted for 13.3% and 17.3%, respectively.

It is the fifth month this year that international visitors to the country crossed the ‘one million in a month’ mark.
