At the ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh highly spoke of the Finish Minister's visit to Viet Nam in the context that the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement will be signed and come into effect in the upcoming time.

The agreement will create more cooperative opportunities for their businesses, he said, adding that the cooperation in research, technology and innovation is the key to turning  opportunities and potential into reality, bringing benefits for their businesses and people.

The signing of the MoU is the joint efforts of both sides in opening a new chapter in the two nations’ relations in science, technology and innovation, asserted Mr. Anh.

The two sides’ institutes, universities and enterprises will have more opportunities to participate in technology transfer and research and development projects and commercialization of research outcomes on the basis of mutual interests.

Finish Minister Mika Lintilä expected that the MoU has manifested the two sides’ determinations to launching the Viet Nam – Finland Innovation Partnership Programme (IPP) and addressing global issues.

It also facilitates the Vietnamese firms to enhance innovation and pave the way for more promotion programs between the two Governments, he added.

The IPP is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) program financed jointly by the Governments of Viet Nam and Finland. IPP is in its second phase running through 2014-2018.

IPP supports Viet Nam’s overall goal of becoming an industrialized middle-income knowledge economy by the year 2020. The program objective is to boost sustainable economic growth in Viet Nam through the increased production and export of innovative products and services.
