VN, Comoros set up diplomatic ties

VGP – Viet Nam and the Comoros set up their diplomatic ties in New York, the US, on September 24, according to the Viet Nam News Agency.

A joint communiqué to this effect was signed at the headquarters of Viet Nam’s Permanent Mission to the UN in the witness of Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh.

The communiqué was inked by head of the Viet Nam Mission Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga and head of the Comoros’s Permanent Mission to the UN Ambassador Mohamed Soilihi Soilih.

Accordingly, the two sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the Ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.

The Comoros is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, east of Africa, with a total area of over 2,000 square kilometres and population of nearly 800,000.

The establishment of diplomatic relationship with the Comoros has brought the number of countries that Viet Nam has had official relations with so far to 186./.
