VN commits to human resource development

Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Phạm Minh Huân made the remark yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland, while attending the plenary  session of the 99^th conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

In 2009, according to Deputy Minister Huân, due to impacts of the global economic crisis, over 133,000 Vietnamese people lost their jobs and over 100,000 others suffered from underemployment.

Nevertheless, the Vietnamese Government timely provided low-interest loans for enterprises to pay wages, insurance and unemployment allowance for their laborers. Many laborers were also financed to attend vocational training courses. 

Mr. Huân underlined that these measures partly helped Việt Nam maintain production, stabilize macro-economy, create jobs and develop the domestic labor market. 

Deputy Minister Huân also confirmed that Việt Nam stands for the elimination of child labor, as clearly stipulated in its Constitution. However, he acknowledged that there remain numerous difficulties for Việt Nam to get rid of worst forms of child labor by 2016. Hence, it is vital for the international community to join hands in both technical and financial aspects with developing countries to achieve the goal, said Mr. Huân.
