VN commits to connectivity in East Asia

PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement on Thursday afternoon while attending the 21^st World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in Bangkok, Thailand.

He affirmed that Vietnamese Government would continue to improve the business environment and create favorable conditions to further attract foreign investors here.

The Government chief noted that regional cooperation and connectivity is a major trend in East Asia, in which ASEAN is taking the central role.

Apart from building ASEAN Community, the bloc’s is actively working with other partners inside or outside East Asia to deploy numerous programs, initiatives and cooperative frameworks, including the Greater Mekong Sub-region, ASEAN 1, ASEAN 3 and the East Asia Summit (EAS).

The successful cooperation, as PM Dung said, has generated opportunities and advantages for closer regional cooperation and connectivity. However, the progress is now facing with challenges and difficulties.

The global economic restructuring is taking place vigorously in the context of declining business and production, high inflation, rising public debts, increasing power and food prices. This requires appropriate adjustments in regional structures, including the East Asia, he added.

The Vietnamese PM also shared his views on proposals for promoting ASEAN’s central role in such frameworks as ASEAN 1, ASEAN 3 and the EAS; ensuring “synchronous manner” in regional cooperation and enhancing resilience in East Asia’s regional connectivity in response to external upheavals.

PM Dung also stressed the need to ensure peaceful and stable environment in favor of development, including the guarantee of peace, stability, security and free navigation in the East Sea./.
