VN-China land border committee meets

VGP - The fourth session of the Viet Nam-China Land Border Joint Committee was convened in Ha Noi on December 4-5.

Both sides affirmed that the committee has performed effectively in 2013 and agreed to continue the cooperative mechanism and solve arisen issues. 

They also hailed outcomes of cooperation between the two countries’ relevant agencies and local authorities in managing and protecting borders in accordance with the Protocol on Border Demarcation and Marker Placement, the Agreement on Border Management Regulations and the Agreement on Border Gates and Regulations on Border Gate and Land Border Management.

They discussed and reached important agreements on opening and upgrading border gates, building facilities to ensure stability for shared borders and markers, enhancing immigration order and cooperation in preventing crimes and maintaining security and order along the border.

Both sides also agreed on a working plan for 2014, which focuses on negotiation and conclusion of an agreement on extracting and preserving tourism resources of Ban Gioc waterfalls and facilitating free travel of ships at the mouth of the Bac Luan river.

The fifth session is scheduled to take place in China in 2014.
