Deputy PM Ninh made the point on June 4 at his meeting with Governor of Yunnan Li Jiheng during the former’s tour to China for the China-South Asia Expo and Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair.

He expressed pleasure at the positive outcomes in local cooperation that he witnessed. However, these were still modest and inappropriate with respective potentials.

The Vietnamese Government, said Mr. Ninh, encourages local coordination in border areas in such fields as economics, trade, tourism, culture and education.

Viet Nam is working to early finalize the Ha Noi-Lao Cai Expressway and plans to upgrade the Ha Noi-Lao Cai Railway in coming time.

Mr. Ninh said he hopes that authorities of provinces sharing the borderline will increase their contacts and facilitate business operation to effectively tap respective markets. The work will serve as a foundation for the two countries to cement and deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperation.

“A large number of Vietnamese enterprises are joining the China-South Asia Expo and Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair and show their interests in closer ties with Yunnan in particular and border provinces in general,” Ninh said.

For his part, Governor of Yunnan Li Jiheng shared Mr. Ninh’s suggestion on investment encouragement in border areas.

According to him, China is finalizing the Kunming-Ha Khau Expressway which will open to traffic in 201 and create a trade and investment corridor between border areas of the two countries.

Many Yunnan’s big corporations also want to do business in Viet Nam, the host provincial leader said./.
