The event took place on the same day when Vietnamese State President Nguyễn Minh Triết started his official visit to Chile to boost up the bilateral relations.

At this round of talks, both Việt Nam and Chile hope to move ahead on the issues mentioned in the previous negotiations, said Chilean officials.

They added that Việt Nam is a promising market for foreign investors.

"The agreement will open up many opportunities for Chilean products to enter the Vietnamese markets as the two economies are complementary", said Mr. Contreras, Director of the Department of International Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.

According to statistics of ProChile, the Export Promotion Agency of Chile, the trade turnover between Việt Nam and Chile stood at around US $177 million in 2008, up 9% against 2007. In the first seven months of this year, the figure reached US $141 million, 39.3% higher than the same period last year. /.
