VN, Cambodia to boost cooperation in border areas

VNGOP – The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences organized a symposium under the theme 'Vietnam-Cambodia relationship in new context: Comprehensive cooperation and co-development'' attended by a lot of scientists from the two countries. The seminar was held in part to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Delegates pointed out the prospects for Vietnam-Cambodia cooperation for the sake of two peoples' interests. In the near future, the two countries should focus on and prioritize cooperation in some areas relating to border provinces by facilitating trade promotion activities, applying incentives on tax and customs procedures and intensifying the fight against smuggling and counterfeit goods that find their way across the border.
Other areas that were addressed at the conference included the upgrades of border checkpoints, the construction of inter-provincial roads, the planting of industrial crops, the protection of environment and natural resources, and an increase in cultural, educational, health, tourist activities between the two neighbors.

In interregional cooperation
, Vietnam and Cambodia will boost their ties through subregional and regional projects, the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle and other international forums like the UN, Non-Aligned Movement and the Francophonie.
