After the ceremony, vehicles licensed by relevant agencies of Việt Nam and Cambodia to transport passengers and cargo are allowed to go deep into each other’s territory.

In the past, they had to stop at borders for transshipment.

The international border gate of Mộc Bài–Bavet in Tây Ninh is the first site where the agreement is enforced. Four other border gates will follow suit soon.

In October, Việt Nam and Cambodia will hold similar ceremonies at the international border gates of Tịnh Biên- Phnom Den and Hà Tiên-Lork Kampot, both in the southern province of An Giang.

In the period 2000-2005, two-way trade turnover between Việt Nam and Cambodia rose 40% annually to reach US $692 million in 2005. The two sides are striving for a set target of US $1 billion soon.
