VN asks Czech Republic to punish policeman abusing power

VGP - The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lê Dũng, sent condolences to the family of a Vietnamese national residing in the Czech Republic, who was beaten to death by local policemen.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic sent a diplomatic note to the host Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other competent agencies.

The Vietnamese Ambassador also directly exchanged views with the Director of the Foreigners Police Office to condemn the policemen's behavior and proposed Czech agencies to investigate and bring them to court.

The police director offered an apology and stated that they will try their best to properly address this case.

Czech prosecutor office started legal proceedings against the case.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic cooperated with the local Vietnamese Association to organize funeral for the victim and help his family.

Mr. Hoàng Sơn Lâm, 44, a businessman in Brno, beaten by a local policeman, died on January 5.

The policeman was prosecuted for causing the death and abusing authority. The two other policemen were also prosecuted for abusing power and witnessing the wrongdoing without intervention.
