VN asks ASEM to recognize her market economy

VNGOP – Addressing at the 8th ASEM Foreign Ministerial Meeting (MM 8) that ended in Hamburg on May 29, Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm urged member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) to recognize Vietnam as a market economy.

Mentioning the promotion of the Asia-Europe economic cooperation, the Deputy PM suggested to realize the Hanoi Declaration on Asia-Europe Closer Economic Partnership (CEP) and spped up the Doha Round.

The Vietnamese delegation proposed to host several meetings at ministerial level, such the foreign and education ministerial meetings in 2009, the culture ministerial meeting in 2011; and an energy security policy forum in 2007 and an ASEM tourism forum in 2008.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm had working sessions with the German, Indian, Bulgarian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Luxembourg and Czech foreign ministers, and the European Commissioner for External Relations and senior representative in charge of the European Union’s foreign and security policy to discuss bilateral relations.
