Vietnamese President and Prime Minister meet with Chilean President

VNGOVNet – In the morning of November 17, the formal reception in honor of the President of the Republic of Chile, Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria, took place at the Presidential Palace with the most solemn rituals accorded to a head of state.

In the separate meetings and talks with President Nguyễn Minh Triết and Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, the Chilean President expressed her gratitude to Vietnamese leaders and people for the latters’ good sentiment towards herself and Chile on this visit. Ms. Michelle Bachelet said that she admired Vietnam  greatly for its credit not only in the wartime but also in its present-day cause of national renovation and development. The Vietnamese leaders thanked the government and people of Chile for their support to Vietnam’s bid for entry into the World Trade Organization as well as to its nomination as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The Vietnamese President and Prime Minister said that Vietnam and Chile should further bilateral economic and trade cooperation and that they should as soon as possible sign a protocol that would pave the way for a Vietnam-Chile Bilateral Trade Agreement.

The same day, President Michelle Bachelet laid a wreath at and visited President Hồ Chí Minh’s Mausoleum, paid her tribute to the Monument of Heroes and Martyrs, and paid her respects to General Võ Nguyên Giáp.
