According to many delegates to the meeting, to step up their economic and trade relations, Việt Nam and Poland should soon conclude negotiations for an agreement on investment encouragement and protection, and intensify exchanges of business delegations and trade promotion.

Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Thắng, Vice Director of the VCCI’s International Relations Department, said that Poland will become an entrance for Vietnamese exports to enter European countries.

Mr. Wojciech Gerwel, Commercial Counselor of the Polish Embassy in Việt Nam, noted that the two countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations establishment in 2010 and that the Polish Prime Minister will pay an official visit to Việt Nam on the occasion. These events will be great opportunities for the two sides to beef up bilateral economic and trade ties, he added.

The two-way trade value is estimated to surge to over US $500 million in 2009 from US $400 million in 2008.

Việt Nam exports mainly garments, farm products and foodstuffs to Poland while mostly importing powder milk, medicines and equipment used in coal, shipbuilding and steel industries.
