Vietnamese, Lao Deputy PM meet

VNGOP – Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm had a reception on June 12 in Hanoi to his Lao counterpart Thoongloun Sisoulith who is attending the second Initiative for the ASEAN Integration (IAI) Development Cooperation Forum.

Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm expressed his delight at the good development of the two countries' special friendship and comprehensive cooperation. Recently, the two sides have boosted the two-way exchange of high-ranking delegations and worked out new modes of economic cooperation. Up to May 2007, Vietnamese businesses registered to carry out nearly 100 investment projects in Laos, with a total capital of US$ 1 billion, focusing on hydroelectricity, mining, agro-forestry, medicine production, consumer goods. There are eight projects invested by Lao enterprises in Vietnam in trade, tourism and services.

The two Deputy PMs noted with joy the close cooperation between the Governments, ministries, sectors and peoples of the two countries within the cooperation framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Mekong Sub-region, the Ayeyawady–Chao Phraya–Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and the Cambodia–Laos–Myanmar–Vietnam (CLMV) cooperation. They also spoke highly of the results of the first ministerial meeting of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia joint coordination committee on development triangle and affirmed continued efforts to tighten bilateral cooperation at regional and international forums.
