The Spokesperson made the point at a regular press conference in Hanoi on May 25 in response to reporters’ question about protection of overseas Vietnamese citizens after bloodshed attacks in Jakarta (Indonesia), Marawi (the Philippines) and Manchester (the UK).

As an agency in charge of overseas citizen protection, the Foreign Ministry has continually ordered its representative agencies in those areas to update the situation and report to the ministry, Ms. Hang said. The Spokesperson also added that they are ready to launch protection measures when Vietnamese citizens encounter difficulties.

Regarding a news that Vietnamese fishing boat detained by Indonesia’s fisheries resources surveillance ship, the Spokesperson said that the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has provided official information about this incident.

The two sides are coordinating to resolve the issue in the spirit of friendship and on the basis of the countries’ strategic partnership, the diplomat stressed.

Regarding the situation of Vietnamese people following the fresh terror attacks in Jakarta (Indonesia), Marawi (the Philippines) and Manchester (the UK), she quoted Viet Nam’s representative agencies there as saying that there hasn’t been any new information about Vietnamese in the incidents.

Regarding the case of Doan Thi Huong, a suspect in the death of a Democratic People’s Republic of Korean citizen in Malaysia in February 2017, the Spokesperson said representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia and Malaysian lawyers paid consular visits to Huong on May 18 and 24 to give her spiritual support and seek strong arguments to defend her in the May 30 trial. Huong said she was in good health with stable spirit.

The Foreign Ministry is continuing close coordination with domestic authorized agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and lawyers to protect the Vietnamese citizen’s interests in the upcoming trial, the Spokesperson noted./.
