Vietnamese, Egyptian foreign ministers hold phone talks

VGP – Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held phone talks with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry on June 5 to discuss measures to promote bilateral relations and coordination between the two countries at multilateral forums.

During their talks, the two ministers were delighted at the fruitful development of the Viet Nam-Egypt over the past time, pledging to further deepen all-around cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to resume exchange of delegations at all levels and closely coordinate in issues of shared interest, and support candidacy of each other at international organizations.

Bui suggested the Egyptian side support Viet Nam and the African Union (AU) to establish official relations.

The foreign ministers affirmed to exert their efforts to lift bilateral trade turnover to US$1 billion as planned, and share experience and take measures to promote post-pandemic tourism recovery.

They exchanged views on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), and support for efforts to solve relevant issues by peaceful measures through negotiations.

Bui took the occasion to invite Shoukry to visit Viet Nam and the latter accepted the invitation and expressed his wish to welcome Bui to Egypt at a convenient time./.
