The two leaders also toured a number of big projects being operated by the Singapore-based Mapletree Investments in Viet Nam.

During their meeting ahead of the opening ceremony, PM Lee and Deputy PM Dung agreed that economic, trade and investment cooperation is always a spotlight in Viet Nam-Singapore cooperative relations.

They hailed the launching of the Mapletree Business Center as a specific evidence of the effective cooperation between the two countries.

Singapore has constantly been a leading foreign investor in Viet Nam. As of January 2017, Singapore was operating over 1,800 valid investment projects in the S-shaped country with a total registered capital of more than US$39.04 billion.

After ten years, the Framework Agreement on Viet Nam-Singapore Connectivity has been actively implemented, bringing about fine outcomes. The Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) model is working effectively and continues to be expanded, contributing significantly to Viet Nam’s economic development.

Viet Nam gives priority to accelerating economic, trade and investment ties with the ASEAN nations, including Singapore, Deputy PM Dung said, asking both sides to make better use of cooperation potential in this important field.

Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong thanked the deputy PM and leaders of HCM City for their warm welcome, pledging to continue encouraging Singapore’s big companies to visit and explore investment opportunities in Viet Nam.

The Singaporean PM is on an official visit to Viet Nam from March 21-24 at the invitation of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
