Speaking at the ceremony, both Deputy Foreign Ministers highlighted the enforcement of the agreement, saying it would prove to be a foundation for Vietnam and Indonesia to implement rights to sovereignty, jurisdiction, management and exploitation over their respective continental shelves.
The two sides also pledged to strictly observe the regulations of the agreement in order to contribute to promoting bilateral friendly and cooperative relations, as well as maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the East Sea.
Vietnam and Indonesia signed the agreement in Hanoi on June 26, 2003, after 25 years of negotiations on the basis of international laws and practices, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
