Vietjet inks deal to purchase 100 B737 MAX aircraft

VGP - VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company (Vietjet) and the U.S. Boeing Commercial Airplanes signed an order contract worth US$12.7 billion for purchasing 100 B737 MAX aircraft.

The contract was inked by Vietjet President and CEO, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, and President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Kevin McAllister at the Farnborough International Airshow 2018, held in Farnborough, the UK, on July 18.

Speaking at the event, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes said that the agreement for a repeat order from Vietjet validates the best-in-class capabilities of the 737 MAX family of airplanes, adding that Boeing takes another major step in growing its partnership with Vietjet, one that continues to contribute to the trade relationship between VietNam and the U.S. 

As part of the contract, Boeing Commercial Airplanes has committed to deploying a series of strategic partnership programs in order to develop modern aviation service ecology in Viet Nam, including Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO), training for pilots, technicians, engineers, etc, as well as special programs for enhancing the management and automation capabilities for airlines in Viet Nam and the Viet Nam aviation industry as a whole.

Currently, the airline features a fleet of 60 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates more than 385 flights every day and transported more than 60 million passengers with 93 air routes to all destinations in Viet Nam and other nations and territories, including Hong Kong (China), Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia.
