Viet Nam’s First Book Day launched

VGP – The April 21 was set as the Viet Nam’s Book Day, aiming to highlight the importance, role, and position of books in social life and honor the reading culture.

A launching ceremony was held on April 19 in Ha Noi to announce a decision of the PM.

The event also targets to promote reading habit in the community; and raise awareness about competent authorities among all social strata, especially youth, about the importance of book reading.   

Addressing the launching ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son stressed that the Viet Nam’s Book Day is of great significance for book writers, publishers and readers; serving to spurring the culture of book reading.

Mr. Son took the occasion to urge all levels, sectors, social organizations to heighten responsibilities for building and developing campaigns on book reading and knowledge-based society.

Earlier, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported that the average Vietnamese reads only 0.8 books per year from the library.

These figures reveal that the demand for books among the Vietnamese people was still too low./.
